Challenging Teacher Burnout and The "Good" Teacher Narrative with Special Guest Caitlin Peay Smith (Ep. 21)
Oct 11, 2022
Have you ever considered what you were taught about the things "good teachers" do? What they are willing to sacrifice? How "good teachers" operate? Teacher burnout, while absolutely a systemic issue, results in lots of ways to how society, our schools, and even how WE see "good teachers." That's why I brought on Caitlin Peay from How to Get Away with Teaching to talk about her experience with teacher burnout, how she survived, and what she is doing to challenge the "good teacher" narrative with candid conversations, de-stigmatizing mental health, and supporting sustainable self-care to fuel the revolution of humanizing educators.
Caitlin Peay Smith is a former teacher with over ten years of experience in North Carolina. She has a Master’s Degree in Curriculum & Instruction and another in Teaching English as a Second Language. She is the owner of How To Get Away With Teaching, LLC, a self care brand that disrupts society’s expectations of teachers and moms by prioritizing mental health and wellness. How To Get Away With Teaching also provides mental health resources, mood-boosting wellness goodies, speaking engagements, and a subscription box curated as a reminder for teachers to prioritize themselves.
